Searsport is a town rich in maritime history...from the days when it provided ten percent of the nation's ship captains to today ... an active seaport being Maine's second largest deep water port.   This heritage is preserved in the twelve buildings of the Penobscot Marine Museum, most being on the National Register of Historic Places.   In addition to the museum, you will find historic Moose Point State Park; beautiful Swan Lake state Park with warm fresh water swimming; Cape Jellison with Fort Point State Park and its adjacent lighthouse and the remains of Fort Pownall; Fort Knox, with its restored 19th century garrison is just down the road.   On the Searsport waterfront are Mosman Park and the public landing with the town dock, boat ramp, fishing and swimming, all open to the public.
