Built during 1844 -1869 by master craftsmen of local granite and brick, Fort Knox(this is the original) is a splendid example of 19th Century military architecture. The ambiance of an ancient castle, Fort Knox is the gateway to the 420' Penobscot Observatory - the only 1 in the Western Hemisphere - you can see for miles.
